I connect local newsrooms with data and other tools to support their accountability journalism. I coordinate the Investigate This! project, which offers resources on criminal justice issues.
My Background
Before coordinating Investigate This!, I managed small public radio newsrooms in North Carolina and Nevada. When I say small, I mean that sometimes there were only two or three of us trying to cover everything in our region, so I’m familiar with the many challenges local journalists face.
In Reno, Nevada, I worked with Noticiero Móvil to create a bilingual college internship program in partnership with KUNR that has won two national Edward R. Murrow Awards. Then I got to work with the Washoe County School District to create the KUNR Youth Media program for high school students, which also snagged a national Murrow. These programs gave me the opportunity to edit the inspiring storytelling of dozens of emerging journalists in college and high school. A teacher at heart, I've enjoyed teaching creative writing classes and serving as a mentor for NPR’s Next Generation Radio program.
