I lead The Marshall Project’s newsroom, overseeing a talented group of journalists focusing their investigative powers on the U.S. criminal justice system, including those most deeply affected by crime and mass incarceration.

My Background

I have been a journalist for 35 years, bringing an accountability lens to government and political coverage in Idaho, Connecticut, Virginia and Massachusetts.

Before joining The Marshall Project in the fall of 2025, I worked at The Boston Globe for 20 years. As Metro editor, I led the team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News — and numerous other industry awards — for our coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing. Most recently, as managing editor for eight years, I helped lead a newsroom renowned for its accountability work and successful subscription model.

My husband and I live in Boston with our two teens and two dogs.
