Daphne Duret

Staff writer

I investigate and write about issues surrounding policing in America. I am also drawn to stories about state and federal criminal courts.

My Background

I came to The Marshall Project after years of covering crime and courts. I was previously on USA Today's investigations team and was part of the group that produced an award-winning series on the plight of law enforcement whistleblowers. I was also a Knight-Wallace fellow. Before that, I worked at The Palm Beach Post, where I investigated law enforcement’s use of secret cell phone tracking, immersed myself in alleged street gangs, and exposed fraud claims involving a medical device that led to criminal charges. I have worked internationally, including in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and have reported for The Miami Herald and St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Outside of journalism, I am a board member of DIME, a nonprofit organization empowering teens in underserved areas. I am a classically trained flutist and oboist, and I speak three foreign languages: French, Kreyol, and Spanish.

Contact Me About...

I want to know what's going on inside law enforcement agencies, especially anything that affects the way officers interact with the communities they serve. I'm also interested in police in court, including officers on trial or testifying in criminal and civil cases.
